Our Work.

Community Outreach

We conduct community outreach campaigns to increase the number of people served by our program areas, such as HIV Prevention through Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) and targeted HIV testing and counseling for key populations. Additionally, we focus on supporting young boys and girls, both in and out of school, by addressing their long-term needs through education on sexual and reproductive health and HIV Prevention. AHC in collaboration with RDF organizes also the mobile treatment unit with the purpose of providing clinical, psycho-social and laboratory follow- up for the PLHIV enrolled in RDF program in hard to reach areas.

Active Campaign: Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision

At AHC, we’re in constant communication with our partners and the communities we serve. That’s why we’re well placed to assess and shape outreach programs to respond to community needs. Our most active outreach campaign aims to reduce the risk of HIV transmission through voluntary medical male circumcisions (VMMC).

VMMC is a one-time health intervention that provides men with life-long partial protection against HIV. The procedure reduces the risk of female-to-male sexual transmission of HIV by approximately 60%. Apart from reducing HIV infection, male circumcision reduces the risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in men, protects against cancer of the penis, prevents inflammation of the glands and foreskin altogether as well as reduces the chances of getting cervical cancer in women. We conduct both surgical and non-surgical (Prepex) VMMCs in settings with high HIV prevalence and low levels of male circumcision to maximize public health benefits. VMMC is provided with other HIV prevention services such as Information, Education and Communications (IEC); HIV testing and counselling; linkage to care and treatment and condoms distribution.
